Terms of Service

1. Who these terms are between

VSXRank is a rank tracker for extensions published on the Visual Studio Code Marketplace and on Open VSX. These terms are the agreement between you and Yash Agarwal, an individual based in India, who runs vsxrank.com (“VSXRank”, “we”, “us”), covering the website, the public pages, the live demo, the signed-in app and Featured placements.

VSXRank is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by Microsoft, GitHub or the Eclipse Foundation, and it speaks for none of them. Write to [email protected] for a postal address, which we will give you on request.

By creating an account, buying a subscription or buying a Featured placement you accept these terms, the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy. If you do not accept them, do not use the signed-in parts of the service.

2. What the service does

We read the public APIs of both registries on a schedule and store what they return: install and download counts, ratings and reviews, versions, category rankings and search positions out to position 1,000. The public extension and category pages and the live demo are free to read. Tracking a watchlist of your own — keyword ranks, competitors, alerts and refreshes — is paid.

Anyone may track any public extension. There is no ownership check, and marking an extension as yours in the app is a label for your own benefit, not a claim we verify or publish.

3. Accounts

Accounts are created with a one-time code emailed to your address, or by signing in with Google. There is no password. Anyone who can read your inbox or open your Google account can therefore reach your VSXRank account, so keep both secure and tell us at once if you think someone else has used yours.

• One account is for one person. Seats for a team are part of the Team plan.
• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• Give us an email address you actually control; billing and alerts go to it.
• Do not share a sign-in code with anyone. We never ask you for one.

4. Plans, billing and limits

Subscriptions are sold per month or per year. Yearly billing is ten months of the monthly price. Solo is $9 a month and Pro is $19 a month; the current prices and the allowances each plan includes are on the pricing page, which is the list the checkout charges from.

Dodo Payments is the merchant of record for every purchase. They take the payment, handle card data, issue the invoice and collect and remit sales tax, VAT or GST where it is due. Prices are shown in US dollars and exclude any tax Dodo has to add at checkout. Their terms apply to the payment itself alongside these terms.

• A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price for your plan, until you cancel it.
• You can cancel at any time from the billing portal in the app. Access runs to the end of the period you have already paid for, and outside the refund window we do not prorate or refund a part-used period. The window, and what happens to a renewal, are in the Refund Policy.
• If a payment fails we may retry it and may suspend tracking until it succeeds. Collection of public data continues regardless, so your history keeps filling in and is there when you come back.
• Plan limits — extensions on the watchlist, the shared keyword allowance, competitors per extension, refreshes per day and the monthly research unlock budget — are enforced by the service. Moving to a smaller plan means the smaller limits apply.
• The Team plan is sold by conversation rather than checkout. Write to [email protected]; anything agreed in writing for a Team account sits on top of these terms.

We may change prices. An increase never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we will tell you by email before it takes effect on a renewal.

5. Research unlocks

A subscription also opens the full public page of extensions that are not on your watchlist, up to a set number of distinct extensions each calendar month in UTC. The allowance resets at the start of each month. It does not accumulate, it cannot be transferred or cashed out, and a month you did not use is not credited back. Any API or MCP access we later offer draws on the same allowance.

6. Featured placements

A Featured placement is a one-off purchase, not a subscription: you buy 30 or 90 days beside one category board, or beside every board. It is a card next to the ranking, labelled as paid, with your extension’s name and icon, one line of copy and one link. It is never placed inside a ranking, never given a rank number and never counted in any ranking, score or mover list.

• Up to 3 paid placements share a board. Checkout refuses once a board is full for the dates you asked for.
• Every placement is reviewed by a person before it goes live, usually within a day. The days you bought start when it is approved, not when you pay.
• We can decline a placement. We refuse copy that is misleading, unlawful, adult, hateful, or that impersonates another extension or publisher, and we refuse links to anything other than the extension, its repository or its own site. Declined placements are refunded as set out in the Refund Policy.
• You keep ownership of the name, icon, copy and link you submit, and you confirm you are allowed to use them. You give us permission to display them on VSXRank for the period you bought.
• We may take a live placement down if it breaks these rules or if the extension is removed from both registries. A placement we take down through no fault of yours is refunded for the days not shown.

7. Acceptable use

Using the service, you agree not to:

• bulk-scrape, mirror or resell the data on VSXRank, or build a competing dataset out of it. Reading the pages normally, and exporting your own watchlist, is fine.
• work around plan limits — extra accounts, shared credentials, automation against the app’s internal endpoints — or interfere with the rate limits and sign-in protections.
• probe, load-test or attack the service, or try to reach another customer’s data.
• use the service to stalk, harass or mislead anyone, or to publish anything unlawful.

We may suspend or close an account that does any of this, or that has an unpaid balance, and we will say why when we are allowed to.

8. What we do and do not guarantee about the numbers

Every figure on VSXRank is what a registry reported to us at the time we asked. We do not correct a registry’s numbers and we cannot vouch for them. In particular:

• Open VSX reports downloads, which count every update, not unique installs. We never add that figure to, or compare it with, Marketplace installs.
• Marketplace install counts do not only rise. They are restated downwards too, so a single day’s change is not a reliable measure on its own.
• Marketplace search results below the first few positions shuffle between identical queries. We sample each keyword several times and report the median, and we label the uncertainty rather than hiding it.
• A registry can change, throttle or withdraw its API at any time. That can delay or interrupt collection, and gaps of that kind are not a failure of the service.

The service is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind beyond what the law requires. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, and nothing on VSXRank is a promise about how your extension will rank or perform.

9. Your data and ours

What you put into the service — your watchlist, keywords, competitors and alert settings — stays yours. We use it to run the service for you, and we never sell it or publish it as yours. How we handle personal data, and how to get a copy of it or have it deleted, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

The site itself, its design, its text and the derived measures we compute — rank bands, velocity bands, category leaderboards and the like — stay ours.

10. Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time: cancel the subscription in the billing portal, and ask us to delete the account when you want it gone. We can suspend or end an account for non-payment, for a breach of section 7, or if we have to for legal reasons. If we end the service as a whole we will give at least 30 days’ notice by email and refund the unused part of any period already paid.

11. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost revenue, lost installs, lost rankings or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

12. Changes to these terms

We can update these terms. The effective date at the top of this page changes when we do, and we will email account holders before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the new version. If you do not, cancel and ask us to delete the account.

13. Disputes and governing law

Tell us first: almost everything is fixed faster by email than by anything else. Write to [email protected] and we will answer. These terms are governed by the laws of India, where VSXRank is run from, and nothing in them takes away the rights you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.
